20140405: Chantilly Falls (Kananaskis)

Honestly it was hard to get out of bed this morning even with a start time of 8am. But we had a great group of people and I figured it would be a stress-free way to end my ice climbing season. Plus, the forecast promised a warm day. I also wanted to see if the ice had changed much since November when I was here last. Snowline and Moonlight waterfall ice lines are right around the corner but we didn’t check them out today. They would likely have been thinner what with the good weather we’ve had lately (only three days of snow last week!).

The sun did come out for a bit and reveal the surrounding peaks; unfortunately we didn’t get much (any) direct sunlight. But that’s why the ice is so good, right? It wasn’t too wet, was a beautiful blue, and we could hear the water running underneath which is always neat.

Beautiful blue ice, mostly WI2 but some fun stuff depending on which line we wanted to do.
