Since we’d be in Banff for the Banff Film Fest closing awards anyway D and I decided to do a local peak and just see how far we’d get in the amount of time we had. We were thinking it’d be a chilly cloudy day, and it certainly started that way, but ended up quite a nice day with some blue sky and easy consolidated snow.
If you know Banff, you know Norquay. Its North side is the ski hill and its West side is the via ferrata. We headed up the South ridge.
Fog rose, surreal, from the valley below. We watched it blow by in the chilly wind, for a while. Then onto rock; staircase scrambling fun. We made it to below the true summit (still higher than the West summit!) before having to turn around. Stark snowy peaks all around in contrast to the dry valley.
Overall, a chill day; we’ll come back to finish it up sometime later.
