20171021: Sorta-Ice above Picklejar Lakes (Kananaskis)

Another Gerry trip with the CSMC, seeking early ice in Kananaskis Country at Picklejar Lakes. We weren’t even sure there would be ice to climb. A season opener during which I got a feel for the ice tools again after so long away.

Sunny morning, headed towards the mountain
Heading up, less than pleasant side-sloping around the Lakes, and it’s starting to get windy… We spot some ice in the rock bands on the face…
Deeper snow, and looking back into the valley, Picklejar Lakes below
Picture of me talking a picture of others… It’s getting cold and we’re getting slapped around by the wind.
Whoa. That’s as far as we make it.
Yeah a good a place as any to sit & huddle. Ugh now we gotta get out our climbing gear. Monumental effort.
A little fun, then it’s time to head home.
Opting for a more direct route down, and fewer stops. Brrr!
